Gertie My Life Part 1

Gertie My Life Part 1

When I didn’t have a name, I lived with my brothers and sister in Ripon. The house was full of noise and four legged smelly furries and I slept most of the day.

When a house holds Big Dogs, Small Dogs, Furry cats and even bloody Fish It’s not easy to make an impression so when Mark, the Big man took a photo of just ME I suddenly felt important, and thought I might be up for adoption.

At five weeks I was ready to leave, so when my prospective Step Mum visited I was on my best behaviour licking my fur and widening my eyes.

My first impression of her was marred by her sense of direction, she was a hour late and Marks patience was tested. When she finally arrived, she was flustered and full of excuses. It was totally understandable though as I was born in the middle of nowhere.

As she entered the barn, I was in the dogs room but could hear everything even though I only have one ear.

The Big man, Mark, came to get me, I spread out and tried to look less sausage like, I turned side on- so the missing ear was hidden. I wasn’t best pleased as Mark took all my siblings as well, we scrambled around showing off and looking cute, I thought my chances were doomed but she made a bee line to me and made sounds of delight as she stroked me. She smelt good and I dutifully snuggled up into her neck, she had a man with her, he had white hair and big boots ( but he wasn’t Father Christmas) and when she put me down on the floor, I ran over to him and did a wag of my very beautiful backside.

Mark introduced them to my Mum and Dad, Sundance Katherine and Magic Rainbow, My Dad was a champion and Mum had a penchant for ears !!

I thought I had it in the bag, but she left without me, I could still smell her for ages and I felt sad.
